Chrysalis building in Downtown Columbia

The Chrysalis is the eye-catching centerpiece of Merriweather Park at Symphony Woods. This 5,000 square foot multi-purpose amphitheater doubles as a whimsical urban-scale sculpture that harmonizes with its lush forest surroundings.  The Chrysalis has hosted orchestral performances, children’s concerts, the Books in Bloom festival, private events and more.  2022 Season Updates

Artists in residence

The Howard Hughes Corporation, in collaboration with the Howard County Arts Council, has launched the Merriweather District Artists-in-Residence (MD AIR) program. Four selected artists spent up to two months creating work in a medium of their choosing. The studio space is nestled within the Merriweather District, with residential accommodations within walking distance.

Readings, panel discussions and author conversations feature critically acclaimed and bestselling authors. Appealing to omnivorous book club members, politically savvy professionals and young readers, Books in Bloom’s diverse audiences gather to discuss the issues of the day and to share the joys of hearing from new and familiar authors.
