Color Burst Park Grows into the Heartbeat of the Neighborhood

What started as a blueprint for the Merriweather District’s next phase has blossomed into an energetic and vibrant destination at the center of Columbia, Maryland.

Back in 2019, excitement was already building for Merriweather District. We knew something special was coming together when beloved regional spots like Busboys and Poets and Dok Khao Thai Eatery announced they’d be opening right alongside a brand-new, yet to be named green space.

By the spring of 2021, Color Burst Park officially opened to the public with an exciting slate of free community facing events. Each year, the park transforms for the seasons, from a refreshing splash pad for kids in the summer to a pop-up ice rink during the winter.  Color Burst Park hosts local and international talent, allowing community from near and far to enjoy live music from varied genres, space for outdoor workouts, and seasonal markets and festivals.

What began with a few early favorite events — like Summer Fit Series, AMPED in the Park concerts, and Good Kid-izen children’s programming, has grown into a massive, year-round calendar of community activations. Today, Color Burst Park offers over 30 events that include community favorites like Books in Bloom, Earth Day, Summer Series, Movie Nights in the Park, Spook-tacular, the annual Merriweather District Holiday Tree Lighting & Ice Rink Opening, Holiday Market, and more.

Community Backyard and Town Square: Flavors, Fitness, and Fun Just Steps Away

A great park needs great neighbors, and Color Burst Park is surrounded by the very best. Clove and Cardamom first paved the way when they opened in 2021 at the base of Juniper, welcoming the neighborhood with incredible aromas. Since then, the park’s perimeter has been filled with beloved spots to eat, shop, workout, and unwind. Residents of Juniper and Marlow, the apartment communities that anchor the park area, get a front row seat to all the great programming and activations at Color Burst Park.

Whether you are grabbing a scoop at The Charmery, meeting friends for brunch at Eggspectation or Toastique, taking a class at YogaSix, or enjoying a night out at Blackwall Barn & Lodge, Peter Chang, Gyusan, Medium Rare, Banditos Tacos and Tequila, or Smashing Grapes, there is always something new to try. With 21 local shops and restaurants now open, the neighborhood is buzzing with life. And there’s always something new on the horizon, from music to marathons to local arts, like the Baltimore Ravens commissioned mural by renowned artist, Megan Lewis, that beautifully complements the park’s vision.

Today, Color Burst Park is so much more than a patch of green in Merriweather District. It’s a year-round destination at the center of community. It’s where kids take their first ice-skating steps, where friends toast to the weekend, and where neighbors catch up under the summer sun.
